TyphoonNinastruckHenanprovinceofChinainAugust1975.Thetyphooncausedaseriousdam(水坝)failure,andmorethan150,000peopleweredeadorinjured.Accordingtoreports,atleast26,000peoplediedinthefloods.About145,000peoplediedfromdiseasescausedbywaterpollutionandfamine(饥荒).Thenumberofpeopleaffectedbythedisasterwasmorethan10,000,000.

KashmirEarthquake

OnOctober8,2005,adisastrousearthquakestrucktheKashmirregion.Theearthquakeregisteredamagnitudeof7.6,followedbymanyaftershocks,landslides,andfallingrocks.Theseriousnessofthedamageandthehighnumberofdeathswereworsenedbypoorconstruction(建筑)intheaffectedareas.InKashmiratleast79,000peoplewerekilled,andmorethan32,000buildingsbrokedown.

HaitianEarthquake

Atthebeginningof2010,anearthquakehitHaiti.Theearthquakeregisteredamagnitudeof7.0andwasfollowedbyaftershocksthatregisteredmagnitudesof5.9and5.5.Anotheraftershockofmagnitude5.9struckonJanuary20.Therehasbeendebateaboutthetotalnumberofdeathscausedbythisearthquake,butestimatessuggestthatabout200,000-300,000peopledied.Hundredsofthousandsmorewereforcedtoleavetheirhomes.
