Overview

TheCAT(ComputerAidedTransceiver)SystemintheFT-710transceiverprovidescontroloffrequency,VFO,

memory,andothersettingssuchasdual-channelmemoriesanddiversityreceptionusinganexternalpersonal

computer.Thisallowsmultiplecontroloperationstobefullyautomatedwithsinglemouseclicks,orkeystroke

operationsonthecomputerkeyboard.

YAESUMUSENdoesnotproduceCATSystemoperatingsoftwareduetothewidevarietyofpersonalcomputers

andoperatingsystemsinusetoday.However,theinformationprovidedinthischapterexplainstheserialdata

structureandopcodesusedbytheCATsystem.Thisinformation,alongwiththeshortprogrammingexamples,

isintendedtohelpyoustartwritingprogramsonyourown.AsyoubecomemorefamiliarwithCAToperation,

youcancustomizeprogramsforyouroperatingneedsandutilizethefulloperatingpotentialofthissystem.

TheFT-710transceiverhasabuilt-inUSBtoDualUARTBridge,allowingdirectconnectionfromtherear-panel

USBjacktotheUSBjackofacomputerwithouttheneedforaninterfacedevice,simplyuseaUSBcableto

connecttotheUSBjackonthecomputer.

ToconnecttoaPCusingaUSBcable,aVirtualCOMportdrivermustbeinstalledonthePC.
