Abstract

TheBrazilianeconomyhasundergonefar-reachingchanges,relatedespeciallytothe

lossofindustrialcapacityasdeindustrializationhasspreadandcommodity-export

productionhasexpanded.TheBrazilianAmazonregionformspartoftheexpansionary

logicoftheagro-industryandminingsectors.Thisarticleanalysestheeconomic

reproductionmodelofoneofthemainfederativeunitslocatedinthatregion,the

StateofPará.ItusesthespecializationcoefficientsandlocationquotientsofBrazil’s

subnationalfederativeunits,tomakeacasestudyofthatState.Thefindingsreveal

adecliningindustrialstructure,particularlyinmanufacturingindustry,accompanied

bygrowthintheminingandmetallurgicalsector.Economicactivityhasbecome

increasinglyconcentratedintheproductionofrawmaterialsandsemi-finishedindustrial

inputs,oflowtechnologicalcontent.
