TheSimpleNetworkManagementProtocol(SNMP)versionthree(SNMPv3)

requiresthatanapplicationknowtheidentifier(snmpEngineID)of

theremoteSNMPprotocolengineinordertoretrieveormanipulate

objectsmaintainedontheremoteSNMPentity.

Thisdocumentintroducesawell-knownlocalEngineIDandadiscovery

mechanismthatcanbeusedtolearnthesnmpEngineIDofaremoteSNMP

protocolengine.Theproposedmechanismistofthe

featuresprovidedbySNMPsecuritymodelsandmayalsobeusedby

otherprotocolinterfacesprovidingaccesstomanagedobjects.
