BackgroundRabindranathTagorewasborninCalcutta,IndiaintoawealthyBrahminfamily.AfterabriefstayinEngland(1878)toattempttostudylaw,hereturnedtoIndia,andinsteadpursuedacareerasawriter,playwright,songwriter,poet,philosopherandeducator.Duringthefirst51yearsofhislifeheachievedsomesuccessintheCalcuttaareaofIndiawherehewasbornandraisedwithhismanystories,songsandplays.Hisshortstorieswerepublishedmonthlyinafriendsmagazineandheevenplayedtheleadroleinafewofthepublicperformancesofhisplays.

AsthegreatestwriterinmodernIndianliterature,Bengalipoet,novelist,educator,andanearlyadvocateofIndependenceforIndia.TagorewontheNobelPrizeforLiteraturein1913.Twoyearslaterhewasawardedtheknighthood,buthesurrendereditin1919asaprotestagainsttheMassacreofAmritsar,whereBritishtroopskilledsome400Indiandemonstrators.制作TYCWHRLWX
