Theaimofthisstudywastodeterminetheroleofhead,eyeandarmmovementsduringtheexecutionofatable
tennisforehandstroke.Three-dimensionalkinematicanalysisofline-of-gaze,armandballwasusedtodescribe
visualandmotorbehaviour.Skilledandsskilledparticipantsreturnedtheballtocuedrightorlefttargetareas
underthreelevelsoftemporalconstraint:pre-,early-andlate-cueconditions.Inthepre-andearly-cuecon-
ditions,bothhighandlowskillparticipantstrackedtheballearlyin¯ightandkeptgazestableonalocationin
advanceoftheballbeforeball±batcontact.Skilledparticipantsdemonstratedanearlieronsetofballtracking
andrecordedhigherperformanceaccuracythansskilledcounterparts.Themanipulationofcuecondition
showedthelimitsofadaptationtomaintainaccuracyonthetarget.Participantswereabletoaccommodatethe
constraintsimposedbytheearly-cueconditionbyusingashorterquieteyeduration,earlierquieteyeoþsetand
reducedarmvelocityatcontact.Inthelate-cuecondition,modi®cationstogaze,headandarmmovementswerenot
suýcienttopreserveaccuracy.The®ndingshighlightthefunctionalcouplingweenperceptionandactiondu
