Abstract

Introduction:ThepresentstudyinvestigatesdifferencesbetweenmenandwomenintheAlzheimer’sdisease(AD)patientjourney,aimingtoimproveearlydetectionandpatientcare.

Methods:Asampleofmenandwomen(N=142)atdifferentstagesoftheADjour-neywereinvitedtocompleteanonlinesurvey.AseriesoflogisticregressionsandCoxregressionswereusedtoexaminesexandgenderdifferencesindiagnosisandtreatment.

Results:Menshowedgreaterawarenessofsedentarylifestylerisks(p=0.005).Diag-nosiswasmoreoftenbyreferralforwomen(p=0.015).Womenweremorelikelytobetreatedwithreminiscencetherapy(p=0.029)andlifestorywork(p=0.025).Timetodiagnosiswasshorterwhendiagnoseddirectlybyspecialists(hazardratio=0.59,p=0.022).

Discussion:Thisstudyreportssex-andgender-baseddifferencesinADdiagnosisandtreatment.Expandingthisresearchwithdiversepopulationsisessentialtoimproveearlydetectionandpersonalizedcare,ultimatelyenhancingpatientoutcomes.
