1.ProjectOutline

Theoriginal8bit8051chipisamemberofthemcs51familyandwasdevelopedin1980byIntel.It

isstilltothisdateoneofthemostwidelyusedmicrocontrollers.PortingTinyOStothe8051System

onchiparchitecturemakesperfectsense-themcs51familyhasbeenthoroughlytested,itisrelatively

cheapandithasareasonablesmallfootprint-whichmakesitidealforembeddedsolutionsandsensor

networks.

Forthiswork,weuseaNordicSemiconductorVLSInRF24E1evaluation-board[NSC].Theboard

containsanIntel8051compatibleMCUwith4KBprogrammemory,a16MHzclock,3differentTimers

(onebeing8052compatible),a2.4GHzwiresRFtransceiverand9input10bitADC,SPIanda

RS232Serialinterface.ThenRF24E1boardwaschosenbecausetheradiocomponentmatchestheradioon

thespeciallydesignedDIKU/DTUHogthrobV0[HOG]boardsusedforresearchpurposesatDIKU

[PEH].
