Variousstudieshaveverifiedthedetrimentaleffectsofruminationasamain-
tenancefactorfordepressivesymptoms(Spasojevićetal.in:Papageorgiou,Wells(eds)
Depressiverumination:Nature,theoryandtreatment.Wiley,Hoboken,2004).Muchsis
knownaboutthedynamicsofruminationasanoutcomeofpowerfulstressorsthattrigger
neivethoughtsandaffect(Lyubomirskyetal.inAnnRevClinPsychol11:1–22,2015).
Thestudycontributestotheliteraturebyinvestiingruminationamongnon-clinical,
adultparticipants,usingdatafromaconveniencesampleofwhite-collaremployeesfrom
theUSandTurkey(N=383).Wetestedthemediationalroleofruminationintherela-
tionshipweenjobsatisfactionandsubjectivewell-being,controllingforthepotential
moderationaleffectfromself-efficacy.Insupportofourhypotheses,theresultsrevealthat
peoplewhoaressatisfiedwiththeirjobtendtoruminatemoreand,therefore,theyfeel
ssatisfiedandshappy.Theexpectedmoderationeffectofself-efficacycouldnotbe
supportedbythedatainourstudy.Ourfindingssuggestthatemployeesmayfinditdifficult
tooffsetruminationresultingfromhavinglowjobsatisfaction,evenwhentheypossess
highself-efficacy.
