    General

    •BoththeMG1(MotorGeneratorNo.1)andtheMG2(MotorGeneratorNo.2)arecompact,lightweight,

    andhighlyefficientalternatingcurrentpermanentsynchronoustype.

    •Servingasthesourceofsupplementalmotiveforcethatprovidespowerassistancetotheengineas

    needed,theelectricmotorhelpsthevehicleachieveexcellentdynamicperformance,includingsmooth

    start-offsandacceleration.Whentheregenerativebrakeisactivated,MG2convertsthevehicle’skinetic

    energyintoelectricalenergy,whichisthenstoredintheHVbattery.

    •MG1rechargestheHVbatteryandselectricalpowertodriveMG2.Inaddition,byregulating

    theamountofelectricalpowergenerated(thusvaryingthegenerator’srpm),MG1effectivelycontrols

    thecontinuouslyvariabletransmissionfunctionofthetransaxle.MG1alsoservesasthestartertostart

    theengine.

    •AcoolingsystemviawaterpumpfortheMG1andMG2hasbeenadded.Fordetails,refertocooling

    system(forInverter,MG1andMG2)onpageTH-34.

    •AccompaniedbyenhancingtherotorrobustnessofMG1,itsrpmrangefortheumpossibleoutput

    hasbeenincreasedfrom6,500to10,000rpm,thereforethechargingcapabilityhasbeenenhanced.

    •Structureofeachbuilt-inpermanentinsidetherotorofMG2hasbeenoptimizedbyredesigning

    ittoVshapedstructure,andimprovementofitspoweroutputandtorquehasbeenrealized.

    •ForMG2control,anewlydevelopedover-modulationcontrolsystemhasbeenadoptedtothe

    -speedrange.
