AfterthewarAlcottspentayearinEuropeasthecompanionofan

invalid.WhiletheywereinSwitzerland,shehadashortloveaffair

withaPolishsoldier,LadislasWisniewski.Shelaterusedhimas

themodelforLaurieinLittleWomen,whichwaspublishedin

1868.Thebookwasaninstantsuccesssoshewroteasequel.She

thenwrotetwomorebooksabouttheMarchfamily:LittleMen

(1871)andJosBoys(1886).

Alcottnevermarriedandshediedattheageof56inBoston.
