people,andoccasionallyconvertingoneofthem.

Hishomewasnotabarrelmadeofwood:tooexpensive.Itwasastoragejarmadeof

earthenware,nodoubtdiscardedbecauseabreakhadmadeituseless.Hewasnotthefirstto

inhabitsuchathing,Buthewasthefirstwhoeverdidsobychoice,outofprinciple.

Diogeneswasnotamaniac(疯子).Hewasaphilosopherwhowroteplaysandpoems

andessaysexpounding(解释)hisdoctrine;hetalkedtothosew
