提［要］文章从定义、学科定位、研究象、

研究方法、学科价值等方面医学社会史进

行了深入的探讨。作者认为：医学社会史是

从社会史的角度，运用多学科的研究方法，

通过历史上人们医药活动的考察来认识

社会的形态及其变迁的历史学分支学科；其

研究象包括历史上人们医药活动的共时

性结构和历时性变迁；其研究方法要求做到

传统史学方法现代化，西方史学方法本土化

以及其他学科方法史学化；从学科价值上看,

医学社会史的研究不仅可以丰富社会史的

内涵，而且可以促使史学工作者重新审视历

史学的象和价值。

valuesnotonlycanthisresearch

enrichtheconnotationofsocialhistory

butstimulatethehistoriansto

reconsiderthetargetsandsignificance

医学社会史是20世纪初以来的“新史学”

向纵深发展而产生的一门社会史分支学科。

在整个社会史大家族中，它可以说是较年轻

且影响较小的成员，以至于在一些中国社会

史学术回顾中几乎被忽略。①然而，这并不

意味着医学社会史是一门无足轻重的学科，

也并不意味着它的研究没有取得多大进展。

事实上，医学社会史是最贴近大众的历史，

它不仅关注大众的生命健康，而且关注大众

的社会生活，是最能解释人类本质属性的历

史，因而它理应从社会史的边缘渐入社会史

的中心。正是基于它的重要地位和潜在价值,

一些学者早在上个世纪后期就涉足该领域，
