Stylistics Phonological Over-regularity Phonological over-regularity is characteristic of literature, especially of poetry. There are two kinds of phonological over-regularity: phonemic patterning and rhythmic patterning. Phonemic patterning: In English, phonemes may be patterned in different ways.
