Elizabeth Barrett Browning(1806-1861) -----(A strong and prestigious woman poet) Elizabeth Barrett Browning Biography Among her twelve brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Barrett Browning is the oldest, whose dad, Edward Moulton Barrett, derived wealth from Jamaican plantations; She loved horse riding and her spine was injured for falling from a horse when she was only 15 years old. So she couldn’t walk until she was 39 years old. Biography In 1845, she met another great England poet Robert Browning and then they fell in love with each other deeply. They escaped from England and went to Italy because her father disagreed on their love and forbad them to marry; In Sept. 1846, Browning and Elizabeth Barrett were secretly married and left for Italy; Their only child, Robert Wiedemann (known as Penini), was born in 1849.
