Yingxiu, the epicenter of the 8.0 magnitude earthquake that killed more than 69.000 people in May 2008, is now trying to reposition itself as a tourist destination. The town was completely destroyed, and rebuilt after the earthquake. Recently , the Yingxiu government announced that it would turn into a national 5A class tourist zone . Many people think that it will hurt the feelings of thousands of survivors and families of victims, however, supporters of the idea point out that Yingxiu couldn’t treat itself as a victim forever , and tourism is a very effective way of helping survivors get back on their own feet and rebuild a more prosperous life. For my part , I agree the latter. To begin with , there is a famous saying going that “ you get to put the past behind you before you can move on”. Local residents have to go ahead and make a living on their own, and tourism is the best way to make its economy come to life quickly. In addition, for the survivors, they can heal their wounds and keep the memories of the loved ones alive by telling their stories to strangers who come from all over the country and the world. I think it is a good way of helping them move on psychologically. Finally “Disaster tourism” is not uncommon in the world. As long as it is handled carefully and respectfully,it is not a bad way of making the best out of a tragic situation. In conclusion, to rebuild Yingxiu into a tourist destination will not only help the survivors move on ,but also make a lot of money. We can kill two birds with a stone ,so why not put it into practice as soon as possible.
