Th is gu ideline reaffirm s the ep idem ic characteristic s, the p revention and the m anagem en t of iodine deficiency disease. It identifies the m ea su rem ent of iodine nu tritional statu s and the nece ssi ty of iodin ized salt. It emphasizes the regu lar diagno sis and treatm ent of subacute and chron ic thyro iditis, and also m en tion s the advancem ent on differen tial diagno sis and rational therapy of thyro id nodu les. In addition, it give s som e advices on the m anagem ent of thyroid nodu les in two sp ecial group s (p regnant wom en and ch ildren) .
