Abstract The educational research has experienced several boom periods since 1978 in China. As to the research on basic-education reformation, there are three periods in research mothods. These three axes-ages are centered by educational experiment research, educational action research, and educational qualitative research. At the end of 1970s and the beginning of 1980s, to change the tendency of ignoring precise researches while educational decision-making and teaching reformation, some professional researchers called on educational researches with scientific disciplines as the criterion. From then on, experiment had been playing the main role in educational research till the end of 1980s. During the end of 1980s and middle of 1990s, a number of professional researchers advocated action research to answer the condemnation that there existed great gap between educational theory and practice. It is the silver age of educational action research. At the end of 20th century, with reflection of “paradigm”, some professional researchers suggested using more qualitative methods in educational research. From that time on, qualitative educational research has soared. Experiment research corresponds to scientificism (positivism), while qualitative research corresponds to humanism (interpreticism). With the open-mind spirit of action research as direction, we should understand their respective value. The analysis of relationship between professional researchers and actual practitioners reminds us that either of them should respect each other.
