Abstract : With the analysis of the principalcurves, the extended polygonal line algorithm and the spe
cialties of fingerprint, the original extended polygonal line algorithm is improved a lot, and becomes
much more suitablefor the extraction of the skeletonization of fingerprint. Then the minutiae extrac
tion based on the skeletonization is achieved. T he improved extended polygonal line algorithm proves
more effective in skeletonization in a short time and the minutiae extraction based on the skeletoniza
tion is accurate compared with some traditional methods, thus it is more practical.
