Abstract：Chinaisembracinganimportanttransitionperiod．Inpractice，therestructuringofurbanspacehas
becomeageneralphenomenon．Developmentzoneconsturctionisoneoftheeffectiveurbandevelopmentap—
proaches．Sincethereform andopeningup，alargenumberofdevelopmentzonesspringuprfom thecoastto
inlandinChinesecitiesandtowns．Apartrfom indusrtialproduction，lotsofthem builtresidentialareas，thus
becomingatypicalsuburbancommunity．Residentsofdifferentbackgroundsliveandworkthere．TakingBei—
jingEconomic-TechnologicalDevelopmentArea (BDA)asacasestudy，thispaperconductsbehaviorism
methodologytosutdydaily-activiyt spaceofcommuniyt residentsofBDA． Theresearchisbasedon
first—handquestionnairedataacquiredrfom localresidents，whichfocusesonrevealingtheseparationpa~ern
oflivingandcommuting，space-orientedtypesofdifferentshoppingactivities，aswellasthespatialdistribu—
tionofeducation，medicalcareandleisureactivities．Thispapertriestoproposearesearchrfameworkofac-
tionspacebasedongeneralutiliytfunctionwithspatialvariable，whichismorecomprehensivethanthoseof
before．Asaresult，thispaperthusrevealsthatdistance，preference，demandforservicequaliytandimprove—
mentoftransportationbringaboutdemandchanges，which，togetherwiththejointeffectofspatialdistribu-
tionofmarketsupplyandgovernmentsupplydeficit，ofrm thedaily—activiytspaceofcommuniytresidents．
