California is still fighting huge fires that are sweeping across the state. Thousands of people have lost their homes although no one has been killed. Firefighters are trying new ways to help save people’s homes. This includes using special planes that can bring water from the sea and drop it on the fires. It is thought that some teenagers may have started the fires. As you can see from here, the damage to the environment is very bad. The fires have already damaged two hundred and sixty square kilometres of forest. Some of these trees are hundreds of years old and will be destroyed if the fires are not quickly put out.
