It is distributed in the south area of the Yangtze River. It is common in the low mountain slopes, the shrub and Woodside, and grows at an altitude of 400~1200m. This plant can be used for the treatment of indigestion, women dysmenorrhea, furunculosis species. In Chinese folk medicine, the roots of Rhynchosia volubilis Lour has antifertility effect. The members from Family Planning Research Institute, Tongji Medical College Huazhong University of Science and Technology found that Rhynchosia volubilis Lour can restrain transiently the activety of human sperm in vitro. To develop a male optional, secure, efficient, reparable and acceptable contraceptive, to strengthen basic research in reproductive medicine, control population growth,we studied the chemical constituents of the roots of Rhynchosia volubilis Lour. The effectual parts of the roots of R. volubilis were made out by adopting solvent soakage and extraction. Ethyl acetate extracts were isolated and purified by liquid- solid thin layer chromatography (TLC), liquid-solid chromatography (LSC) and the re- crystallization, and three pure compounds were isolated. Aqueous portion were isolated and purified by the combination of enzyme and Sevag papain-Sevag to remove protein, alcohol to precipitate and Sephadex G-50 column chromatography,
