Abstract Abstract The Environmental Education in Japanese universities began in 1970s. Its development is always closely linking with the requirement of the society and the changes of the environmental position. Nowadays, it has set up an integrated system with different forms, rich contents and towards all of the college students. The study on the Environmental Education in Japanese universities will help us improve the Environmental Education in Chinese universities, and then promote the fulfillment of “The View of Scientific Development” which presented by our government. The dissertation firstly reviews the background , the historical development, the different features in every period of the Environmental Education in Japanese universities, then discusses the goals, the setup of the curricula, the teaching methods, etc. of the environmental specialities and the non-environmental specialities in Japanese universities, afterwards analyses the building of the eco-campus in Japanese universities and the extracurricular environmental practice with its characters, finally evaluates the Environment Education in Japanese universities in the whole, and puts forward some suggestions for the reformation and development of the Environment Education in our country’s universities.
