Purposed Scope and Sequence for Integrated Mathematics I, AdvancedText: CME Mathematics I, Education Development Center, Prentice Hall 2013Chapter 1: Arithmetic to AlgebraPurpose: Students are introduced to the “Habits of Mind” and the alignment to the Math Practice Standards while closely examining patterns of arithmetic to bridge into a closer look at the number systems use from integers to rational numbers to real numbers. Using the one-to one correspondence between the real numbers and the number line, students compare how numbers in each system are related as well as determining why the rules of arithmetic to work. Although the material is not new in this chapter, students will learn the norms, strategies and procedures and the “Habits of Mind” that they will use throughout the year. Maintain your skills should be used to review content and given as part of the homework.
