ABSTRACT
As the crystallization of human beings civilization, the landscape culture is the
outcome of peoples activities of exploring and reforming the natural world.
Traditionally, the Chinese stick to the belief that peoples life and activities should
be in harmony with the nature. This deep-rooted idea of the Chinese brings forth the
traditional Chinese landscape painting. Motivated by the beauty of nature, people are
willing to integrate their feelings into the landscape painting, as well as landscape
poetry, gardens and travel journals, which jointly stimulate the emergence and
evolution of the landscape culture.
The Wei Jin Dynasties and Sui Tang Dynasties witnessed the formation
and development periods of the landscape painting respectively. And the diversity of
the landscape paintings styles proclaimed the arrival of its mature stage. By
analysing the abundant image materials of Tang Song Dynasties landscape
paintings, the author tries to explore the role, function and significance of them in
the cultural history, as well as their common theme of Tu Zhen (imitating the
nature as real as possible) theory and Chang Shen (the mental delightedness)
theory.
On the basis of the Chinese aesthetics theory, the thesis elaborates the meaning
of image and modality in landscape paintings of Tang Song Dynasties by means of
culturology, artistic morphology and iconology. In the first part of the thesis, by
analysing the evolution of image styles
