I thought everyone knew that he was gay. • 真实条件句：if/when employees are treated with more respect, they are more loyal to the company • 非真实条件句 If I had known they were coming, I would have cleaned my house；If I had studied, I would have passed the test. • 虚拟语气的其它应用：it is time we went home; I wish I were a bird; I wish I lived in the UK. 间接引语基本原则：backshift 主句谓语动词是过去时态，例如said, 从句动词moves back一个时态 直接
