In v iew o f problem s o f bad hydrodynam ic cond itions, organ ic po llut ion and eutrophication, a QUAL 2K m od elw as applicated to pred ict the tem poral and spatial variation of w ater qua lity in urban river system. A nd then, the proper and effective m easures w ere explored for env ironm enta l m anagem ent and po llution contro l o f Beihuan w ater system. M ode ling resu lts show ed that fitness of the m odel could reach 09 135 after repeated ad ju stm ent, and the relative dev iation bewt een smi ulation and f ie ld value w as less than 20% for w ater tem perature, disso lved oxygen, COD, TN, TP and Chla. Therefore, the m ode lw as of h igh accuracy and could be u sed to smi ulate and predict the w ater
