First , th e rect angles packing problem is t urned into a permutation problem. S econd, a surplus rect angle algorit hm is int roduced t o decode t he permutation of rect angles t o the corresponding packing patt ern uniquely . T hus, a n ew hybrid genet ic algorithm is formed t o solve this packing problem. At t he end of this paper, t he new genet ic algorithm is validat ed by two examples, and th e f act shows that the new algorit hm present ed by th is paper is eff icacious.
