Unit 14 Intonation Units of English Xu dehua Structure of English Intonation- groups P = Pre-head H = Head B= Body N = Nucleus T = Tail  Elements in an intonation-group The pre-head: any unstressed syllable or syllables that 调冠 may precede the head - or the nucleus, if there is no head. The head: the first stressed syllable in the tone-group except 调头 the nucleus. In the tone group, if there is only one stressed syllable, that is nucleus.
