In this unit we are going o learn something about packing and shipment. Packing Packing is one of the most important ways to realize the value of the commodities. Every product transported to a foreign country needs packing to protect the safe arrival of the goods. So nowadays, packing is becoming a part of export business. The significance of packing has been increasingly recognized by both the exporter and the importer, and today the widespread use of packing is truly a major competitive force in the struggle for markets. The ultimate goal of packing is protection. Whatever mode of transport is adopted, the goods to be transported will require packing against rough handling, rust and pilferage, etc. We pack the goods for: Ensuring the safe arrival of goods at destination; Economizing on the shipping and freight cost; Saving expense by the use of economical packing materials; Prevent pilferage; Ensuring the lowest possible customs duties; Ensuring the lowest insurance premium. Different packing is chosen to keep the quality of different products. Generally speaking, there are two kinds of packing: large packing or outer packing, used for transportation; small packing or inner packing, used for sales. Here are some packing containers commonly used in international trade: crates, containers, drums, sacks, cartons, cans, bags and cases, etc. There are also some shipping requirements on shipping package. Special character or cargo needs special packing materials and styles. Requirements of customers and involved countries should be considered. Package should be standardized, convenient, strong and economic. Package should bear necessary marks and labels. Marks of Shipping Package After the goods have been properly packed, it must be marked to meet the requirements of the three parties:
