Abstract In activated sludge treatment process aeration efficiency determines the treatment result and energy consump-
tion. In this article, the author presents a review on the progresses , situation and problems of external and internal aer-
ation technology. Furthermore, the authors introduced the progress of aeration technology, significance of bubbleless
aeration and the problems to be researched.
