The importance of this lesson Martin Luther King, JR.(1) is the second lesson of Unit 19. It’s the first reading comprehension text. It forms a connecting link between the preceding and the following. In the syllabus, we are required to foster the Ss’ ability to study on their own and the ability of practical application of English. This text tells about a great freedom fighter— Martin Luther King’s life. By reading this passage and appreciating parts of his film, the Ss can learn the progress of the freedom movement in the USA and the fighters for the equal rights of black people, especially Martin Luther King. 2.
