In this paper, the current studies of SWF technology are reviewed firstly. This paper concludes basic functional structure of the scientific workflow management system (SWfMS) after comparing the popular SWfMSs, and gives an analysis on implementation of the key technologies. Then the SWF technology is applied to the research of geo-spatial information processing area. In this paper, the changes of scientific computing modes using SWF are studied, a SWfMS oriented geo-spatial information processing is designed and implemented for the pending problems in this area, and the system performance is evaluated from scheduling delay and system scalability. Finally the possible trends are represented, while viewing the future development of SWF studies.
