S ev enth P eop les H osp ital of S haox ing City , Shaoxing 312000, Chana Abstract bjective: T o study the burden of care and mental heath status of family caregivers of patients with Alzheimer! s disease( AD) , improve the quality of care and slow down the development of AD in order to provide a basis for mental health services in community. Methods: 275 family caregivers of patients with AD were assessed by using the selfdesigned common questionnaire, burden of care scale ( BCS) , the changes of caregivers living questionnaire and symp tom check list 90. Results: A total of 216 family caregivers were surveyed. BCS and the changes of caregivers living ques tionnaire revealed that the burden of care of patients with AD from high to low was as follows: economic burden, mental health, family living, family relationship, body health and family activity. SCL90 assessment showed that the mental health of family members was reduced significanty and the burden of care correlated positively with total scores of SCL90, suggesting the greater the burden of care, the greater the influence on mental health of caregivers. Conclusion: Thefamily caregivers of the patients with AD should understand the skills of care, adapt to different environments, im prove the negative mental status.
