Th e model describ es th e seep age flow as sat rated and nsat rated area, th erefore the governing eq ation of model can be written as a time-dep endant nonlin ear parab olic type, which will degenerate into Poisson eq ation at sat rated area and convection eq ation at n sat rated area respectively. The wa ter head profile and th e water sat ration profile can be gotten by solving the tw o eq ations sim ltan eo sly and iterativ ely with finite element meth od . Accordingly the free s rface of seepage also can b e gotten. It was proved th at the present me th od is reliable and valid by comp aring with the an alytical sol tion of th e steady seep age in soil col mn of two medi ms and the electric-hydra li
