The Application of Metal Bellows in Reactor Internals of
HTR

Abstract: As a component of stop valve, metal bellows are used in PWR widely. And
there are also metal bellows structures in HTR. To restrict the free flow of helium
coolant, it is need to use metal bellows between the upper supporting plate and RPV
flange Wall in HTR-PM reactor. The nominal diameter of the metal bellows
displacement compensator is about 5 meters, which is no precedent in the field of HTR.
According to GB/T 12777-1999 General specification for metal bellows expansion joints,
data calculation and finite element simulation were carried out. Via the design study of
the metal bellows, such as strength and safety, the preliminary analysis, optimization and
evaluation of the bellows structure were made, and its stability, fatigue life, stress, and
fundamental frequency were checked. The problems of the design and application of
metal bellows in reactor, which should be paid attention to, were discussed. The study
