M ethods The data of 1 136 cases of inguinal hern ias seen betw een Feb. 2003 and Aug. 2009 after tension-free hern ioplasty were analyzed retrospectively. Total expenses, length of hospital stay, post operation com plications, rate of recurrence were compared am ong the groups. Resu ts In all the 1 136 cases the tension-free hernia repairw as successfu l. The operation m ethods included ichtenstein, Rutkow, preperitoneal ingu inal hern iorrhaphy( PIH). The average hospital expensew as significantly lower in the ichtenstein group than in the Rutkow and PIH groups. There w ere no sign ificant d ifferences in recurrence rate, post operative comp lications, length of hosp ital stay among the three groups. Conc u sion A ll the 3 herniop lasty procedures showed ideal effects, characterized by low recurrence rate, m inor postoperative pain, qu ick recovery, short hosp ital stay and few post-operative com plications.
