Fracturing of an element can arise from the limit stresses, and for this reason continuous monitor- ing of fracture propagation becomes essential to ensure safety for personnel and equipment under emergency conditions (Bykhovets et al., 2002). This is of vital importance for large industrial organizations such as waterworks (power plants, dams and embankments), mining projects (open and under- ground mines, deep quarries), bridges, or high-rise structures (Fokin, 2004).
