School of Environmental Science and Engineering , Southwest J iaotong University 　Chengdu 610031 Abstract 　Municipal sludge is not only one kind of pollutants and but a kind of resources , and more and more attention should be paid on how to reasonably use it . In this paper the status and trend of the disposal and use for the municipal sludge in our country is systematically summarized , especially the feasibility of methane produced from the anaerobic digestion of the sludge is discussed and the advanced technology on the improvement of digestion speed is also introduced , as well as the methane desulphurization technology by biotechnology . The resource reuse research on the methane produced from the anaerobic digestion of the sludge conforms to the situation of China and it will be an effective method in the disposal and use of sludge in our country .
