This m ethod includes several processes, such as mi mersing, solvent extraction, sulphuric acid extraction in reverse, second solvent extraction and vacuum d istillation. The content of n icotine is determ ined by the u ltraviolet spectrophotometry. The expermi ent results show ed that proper conditions should be fixed as below. The tobacco d ipped in the4. 5 g /L sodium hydroxide solu- tionw as put in 60e w ater, surged for3. 5 h and then taken out. The obtained liqu idw as adjusted to pH \ 13 by sodium hydroxide solution and then extracted for three tmi esw ith n-hexane. The organ ic phasew as extracted in reverse w ith 20% H SO solution and then adjusted to pH \13 again. A fter that, the second 2 4 extraction w as carried outw ith n-hexane.
