A de scription is presented to latest progress and future orientation on research and development of heavy duty gas turbines, including main technical parameters of both the current E/ F class and more advanced clas ses. Gas turbine is considered as the core pow er equipment for efficient conversion and clean application of energy in the 21st century, and hydrogenfired gas turbine w ill be finally developed for almost zero CO2 e mission coalbased system and CO2 capture system. Coal is currently taken as the main primary fuel in Chi na, natural gas supply w ill gradually rise, so it is of great strategic importance to speed up the selfdevel opment and industrialization of core technologies for heavy duty gas turbines.
