Abstract：UsingNaturalRealExchangeRatemodelandcombiningwithactualeconomic
situationsinJapan，wesetupequilibrium realexchangeratemodelofJapaneseYen．
Basedonthemodelweassessthemisalignmentandalsoanalyzeitsreasonsincethebe—
ginningofYen’sfluctuation．Finallywegetconclusionsasfollows：Yen／Dollarrealex—
changeratehasalwaysbeenfluctuatingacutely．Overvaluationalternateswithunderval—
uation，eitherofwhichmaylastthreetofiveyears．Japanesegovernment’stoomuchin—
terventionin nominalexchange rateis a very importantfactorofthe misalignment．
Overvaluationdoesmuchnegativeeffectontheeconomy，especiallyinaperiodwhenthe
economyshrinksduetolackingfordomesticconsumptiondemand．Inthatcase，curren—
cycrisiswillprobablysoon breakout．
