201127 2 　Chin J Med Imaging Technol, 2011, Vol 27, No 2 · 281 · 　 MRI appearances of four types of rare demyelinating diseases ＊ L UO X iao , CH EN S hao-qiong , K A N G Z huang , Z OU Yan (D ep artmen t of R ad io og y , the Th ird Af f i iated H osp ita of S un Yat-s en Un iversity , Guangz hou 510630, Ch ina) [ Abstract] 　Objective　To analyze the M RI appearances of 9 patients with rare demyelinating diseases.Methods　Totally 5 patients of neuromyelitis optica (NM ), 1 of Balos concentric sclerosis (BCS), 2 of M arburg type multiple sclerosis (MS)and 1 of tumefactive demyelinating lesion (TDL)were collected in this study.Routine M R and enhanced M R scan, diffusion weightedimaging (DWI), diffusion tensor image (DTI)and M RI spectroscopy (M RS)were performed.Results　 M RI revealed signal abnormalities in the optic nerves and the spinal cord which extend over three or more segments in NM .Lesions detected in NM patients didn t meet the diagnosis of typical M S.The lesions of BCS appeared as dissemi- nation in time and space, which showed concentric appearance.M RI revealed diffusewhite matter involved in M arburg type MS.Black hole was observed on T 1WI.Arcuate fibers were not involved.TDL represented as a solitary lesion with strip-like enhanced along white matter veins with slight mass effect.Characteristicfeatures of these diseases could be found with routine MRI, M RS, DWI and DTI.Conclusion　M RI of these patients showed specific features.M RI is helpful to ob- tain credible diagnosis of some rare demyelinating diseases.
