[Ab stract] A smi p lified 4 DOF sing le-track m ode l for tractor-sem itrailer com bination is built, on wh ich the
effects of tw o key param eters, i. e. the positions of h itch po int and the m ass center of sem itrailer, on the lateral sta-
b ility of tractor- sem itra iler com b ination are ana lyzed. Based on th is, the m echanism s o f wt o comm on instab ility phe-
nom ena .i e. jackknifing and la teral sw ay are investiga ted in detail by using m a in component o f e igenvector
( MCE) m e thod. F inally the stab ilization effects o f the feedback o f h itch ang le and h itch angle rate on jackkn if ing
