Abstract
A comparison of English and Chinese indicates that when the same thing or concept is referred to, the English text shows variety in choice of words while the Chinese text features repetition. This author proposes that the differences in word choice between English and Chinese can be accounted for in terms of phonetics, word formation, text coherence and accessibility of referential words.
