Analysis of Cumulant Moments in High Energy HadronHadron Collisions by Truncated Multiplic

Analysis of Cumulant Moments in High Energy Hadron-Hadron Collisions by Truncated Multiplicity Distributions Noriaki Nakajima, Minoru Biyajima, and Naomichi Suzuki1 6 9 Department of Physics, Shinshu University, Matsumoto 390, Japan 9 1 1 Matsusho Gakuen Junior College, Matsumoto 390-12, Japan n u J Abstract 9 1 Oscillatory behavior of cumulant moments obtained from the experimental data 1 in pp collisions and pp¯ collisions are analyzed by the modified negative binomial v distribution (MNBD) and the negative binomial distribution (NBD). Both distri- 9 6 butions well describe the cumulant moments obtained from the data. This fact + − 3 shows sharp contrast to the result in e e collisions, which is described by the the 6 MNBD much better than by the NBD. 0 6 9 / 1 Introduction h p - p Recently a prediction is made by the QCD calculations that the cumulant moment of e multiplicity distribution possesses an oscillatorye behavior[1]. Furthermore, analysis of h + − : the cumulant moments in hadron-hadron hh and e e collisions shows that the j-th order v i normalized cumulant moment of observed charged multiplicity distributions oscillates X irregularly around the zero with increasing the rank j [2]. At present calculated results r a by the QCD explain the behavior of the data only qualitatively. It is well known that the cumulant moment of negative binomial distribution (NBD) calculated from the multiplicity generat
