Pakistan. 45320 p e S August 31, 2004 7 2 v Abstract 9 We study the dynamics of a charged particle in the field of a slowly 7 rotating compact star in the gravitoelectromagnetic approximation to the 5 8 geodesic equation . The star is assumed to be surrounded by an ideal, 0 highly conducting plasma (taken as a magnetohydrodynamic fluid) with a 4 stationary, axially symmetric electromagnetic field. The general relativis- 0 tic Maxwell equations are solved to obtain the effects of the background / spacetime on the electromagnetic field in the linearized Kerr spacetime. h The equations of motion are then set up and solved numerically to in- p - corporate the gravitational as well as the electromagnetic effects. The o analysis shows that in the slow rotation approximation the frame drag- r ging effects on the electromagnetic field are absent.
