CERNTh Feb Dynamically Triangulated Ising Spins in Flat Space Marco Veki c and Shao Liu Department of Physics UC Irvine Irvine Ca USA and Herb ert W Ham b er Theory Division CERN CH Genev e Switzerland ABSTRACT A mo del describing Ising spins with short range interactions moving randomly in a plane is considered In the presence of a hard core repulsion which prevents the Ising spins from overlapping the mo del is analogous to a dynamically triangulated Ising mo del with spins constrained to move on a at surface It is found that as a function of coupling strength and hard core repulsion the mo del exhibits multicritical b ehavior with rst and second order transition lines terminating at a tricritical p oint The thermal and magnetic exp onents computed at the tricritical p oint are consistent with the exact twomatrix mo del solution of the random Ising mo del intro duced previously to describ e the eects of uctuating geometries Intro duction Following the exact solution of the Ising mo del on a random surface by matrix mo del metho ds there has b een a growing interest in the prop erties of random Ising spins coupled to twodimensional gravity More recently work based on b oth series expansions and numerical simulations has veried and extended the original results It is characteristic of these Ising mo dels that the spins are allowed to move at random on a discretized version of a
