SpecialTopic DOI:10.3969/j.issn. 1673-5188.2014.02.009 /kcms/detail/34.1294.TN1111.001.html,publishedonlineMay15,2014 LoadBalancingFat⁃TreeonLong⁃LivedFlows:LoadBalancingFat⁃TreeonLong⁃LivedFlows: AvoidingCongestioninaDataCenterNetworkAvoidingCongestioninaDataCenterNetwork WenGao,XuyanLi,BoyangZhou,andChunmingWu (CollegeofComputerScience,ZhejiangUniversity,Hangzhou 310027,China) Abstract Inadatacenternetwork(DCN),loadbalancingisrequiredwhenserverstransferdataonthesamepath.Thisisnecessaryto avoidcongestion.Loadbalancingischallengedbythedynamictransferralofdemandsandcomplexroutingcontrol.Becauseof thedistributednatureofatraditionalnetwork,previousresearchonloadbalancinghasmostlyfocusedonimprovingtheperfor⁃ manceofthelocalnetwork;thus,theloadhasnotbeenoptimallybalancedacrosstheentirenetwork.Inthispaper,weproposea noveldynamicload⁃balancingalgorithmforfat⁃tree.Thisalgorithmavoidscongestionstothegreatpossibleextentbysearchingfor non⁃conflictingpathsinacentralizedway.Weimplementthealgorithminthepopularsoftware⁃definednetworkingarchitecture andevaluatethealgorithm’sperformanceontheMininetplatform.Theresultsshowthatouralgorithmhashigherbisectionband⁃ widththanthetraditionalequal⁃costmulti⁃pathload⁃balancingalgorithmandthusmoreeffectivelyavoidscongestion.
