Owen School of Chemistry, University of St Andrews, St Andrews KY16 9ST, U.K. (Received l0 September 1997; accepted 11 November 1997) Abstract--The dihydroperchlorate salt of the tetra-aza macrocycle C-meso-5,12-diethyl-7,14-dimethyl-tetra- azacyclotetradeca-4,11-diene (L) has been prepared by the reaction of ethylenediamine monohydroperchlorate with 4-hexen-3-one in methanol solution. A variety of trans-[CoLX2] + complexes (X = C1 , Br-, NCS , N3, OAc- and N O , ) have been prepared and characterised as their perchlorate salts. Infrared and visible spectra are reported.
